GETTING A RECIPE PICTURE INTO DISHLINK
ADDING A PICTURE TO THE RECIPE RECORD
There are several basic techniques you will use to get a picture of a recipe into the app when you are adding a new recipe record. The ‘choose a picture’ field contains the functions ‘upload’, ‘camera’, and ‘web url’. the ‘upload’ function allows you to choose a picture that you have on your phone. The ‘camera’ function allows you to snap a picture of something you might have made.
The ‘web url’ function of the ‘picture’ field allows you to enter the URL of a recipe photo on the web and the app will retrieve that photo. But how do you get the URL of a recipe photo?
ADDING A RECIPE PICTURE ON A DESKTOP
How do you get the URL of a recipe picture on a desktop computer? It may be as easy as right clicking on the photo and selecting ‘copy image address’ or some similar right click function and then the URL of the photo is loaded into your clipboard. Different browsers may use different terminology.
You can then go back to the DISHLINK app and paste it into the ‘web url’ field. If the right click ‘copy image address’ function is not available, then a function ‘open image in new tab’ might be available. After selecting that, go to the new tab, double click on the URL to do a select all then copy the URL to the clipboard using the right click functions or the keyboard CONTROL+C function.
if it is not possible to get the URL of the recipe picture, then you can resort to doing a screenshot of the graphic, loading the screenshot into your favorite graphic editor and clipping it. You can then save it to your computer and use the ‘upload’ function of the ‘choose a picture’ field to load it into the app.
ADDING A RECIPE PICTURE ON A CELLPHONE
if you are entering the DISH LINK record using a cellphone, the procedures for getting a recipe photo into the app are somewhat different. The functions on DISHLINK to retrieve the photo are the same but you will use a somewhat different methodology to get the URL of a photo.
The major difference is that cellphones have no right click button. But they do have something in leu of it. Just hold your finger down on stuff and you will get a contextual menu for that item. On android, hold your finger down on a recipe photo then select ‘open image in new tab’. Go to that tab and then hold your finger down on the URL field of that tab. When the menu pops up select ‘copy link’ and the link to that graphic is loaded in your clipboard.
You can then go back to the DISH LINK app and paste it into the ‘web url’ field of the ‘choose a picture’ field by holding down your finger on that field and selecting paste when the menu comes up.
If the normal hold down finger cellphone menus for the graphic do not seem to be available, there are some other strategies you can use to get the picture of the dish. One way would be to load the recipe on a tablet or desktop then use the ‘camera’ function of the ‘choose a picture’ field on your phone to take a picture of the desktop screen. Voila, it’s now in the DISHLINK app!
Another method to get the picture of the recipe would be do a screenshot on your cellphone, load the resulting image into a graphic editor, clip it, save it, then use the ‘upload’ function of the ‘choose a picture’ field to load it into the DISH LINK app.
